At 8km long and relatively shallow with the maximum depth reaching 15', the lake is part of the Madawaska River drainage system providing a habitat that favours largemouth bass and northern pike. In addition, walleye spawn below the sluice gate of the Mountain Chute Dam, a sanctuary area for a period of time in the spring. Other major lake species include rock bass, smallmouth bass, pumpkinseed and yellow perch.
