It's a fully equipped and very comfortable traditional cottage in the Kawarthas, on Lower Buckhorn Lake (Deer Bay). There are 3 lovely bedrooms with double beds, plus a sun room with a sofa bed. Sleeps 8. The well equipped kitchen has everything you need - just bring food! There is a new 3 piece bathroom (with a shower) off the combined dining and living room. There is good reception for cell phones. Wi-Fi is also available.
Outside, enjoy the cottage deck with a propane BBQ and patio set, or relax on the larger lakeside deck, while the kids amuse themselves! The lake has a nice, sandy bottom with shallow entry. The depth is still only 4 feet at the end of the dock. There is a swim raft, equipped with a slide farther out, in deeper water.
Lower Buckhorn Lake is a great lake to explore by kayak or canoe and has excellent fishing. We offer a stand up paddleboard, quad paddle boat, a tandem kayak, ride in kayak, several kids kayaks, and a large canoe to share (adult life jackets provided). Deer Bay is located between Locks 30 and 31 on the Trent Severn Waterway and is just right for waterskiing, wakeboarding and tubing, as well. You may dock your own boat, or boats can be rented at Bayview Resort, just down the lane, where there is a boat launch as well. Larger pleasure craft can be rented at Town & Country Marine, close by on Buckhorn Road.
Of course, in the evening, enjoy time spent by the campfire pit and watch the moon rise as its reflection dances right across the lake!
Just across the cottage lane is a woods with trails for hiking and biking. There is also a candy/tuck shop at the resort down the lane - a favorite trip for kids of all ages. Yes, they serve ice cream too!
We rent the cottage for full weeks only in July and August. Check in is Sunday after 2pm and checkout is the following Sunday by 11am.
The Cottage is north of Lakefield, and just south of Buckhorn on Deer Bay (nice clear bay, off the Trent Servern channel).
All rooms have ceiling fans. The kitchen includes a fridge, stove, microwave, coffee maker, toaster, dishes, glasses, pots & pans, utensils, etc. The kitchen also has a view of the waterfront (great for families). The cottage is equipped with a CD/Radio system, DVD player and, TV/VCR. There is good reception for cell phones. Wi-Fi is also available.
